Cancun Fishing Conditions September 2026

The last few weeks have been great for fly fishing in Cancun and light tackle fishing. With very little wind it makes it easy to spot the fish and it also helps fly fishers to make accurate casts a little easier.

Species that we've been catching and spooking include Baby Tarpon, Snook, Bonefish, Permit, Barracudas, Jacks and Snappers. Pretty much all species that the lagoon has to offer are around at the moment.

The sargassum conditions in Cancun and the Riviera Maya are getting better every day and most beaches are clean with just a little bit here and there. It hasn't affected the fishing at all in the lagoon, just a few patches in the channels but the Tarpon seem to like to hang around those so we've caught quiet a few in these areas.

The deepsea fishing in Cancun was more affected by the sargassum especially while trolling but that is getting much better now. And although the Sailfish and Marlin are pretty much gone there are still a lot of other fun species being caught. While trolling the are still some Dorado's, Barracudas and Bonitos around and the bottom fishing has been good for Groupers, Snappers and Amberjacks.

September is a great month to come down! The big crowds are gone and the weather has been fantastic!
