Cancun Fishing Report October 2026
October has been a good month so far in the Cancun area. With a few showers mainly at night it has really activated the Tarpon fishing in the lagoons.
In the Cancun Nichupte Lagoon we have plenty of rolling Baby Tarpon up to 30 lbs and the Snook fishing has been good too especially sight fishing in shallow waters. Apart from that clients have been catching Jacks, Snappers and Barracudas.
The Isla Blanca area has been good for mainly Baby Tarpon. The Permit and Bonefish have left the flats so Tarpon will be the main target....not many Snook around at the moment.
The deepsea fishing in Cancun has been on and off. Trolling clients have been catching King Fish and Barracudas and the bottom fishing has been good for Groupers, Snappers and Amberjacks.
Cancun Sargassum update October 2026
The Cancun Hotelzone and Costa Mujeres area have been getting less and less sargassum in most areas. The nice blue waters have returned and apart from a few areas have been great for a swim in the nice warm Caribbean waters.
Further south like Puerto Morelos and Playa del Carmen the beaches are getting cleaned daily but the ocean waters are still a bit brownish close to shore. It has been nice to sit on the beach as you don't have the bad smell anymore like it did before. This is due to that a lot of hotels have sargassum barriers in front of the costal line so very little will actually reach the beach.
The hurricane season in Cancun this year has been very quiet. In fact we had no hurricanes in September. The last time this happened was over 100 years ago and so far in October nothing has formed in this area. This is due to el niño which sees a lot of activity in the Pacific but a quiet Atlantic hurricane season.
October is a great month to come down to Cancun with great weather and no overcrowded hotels.
Tight lines!
Martin
